Students are expected to read outside of school every day. It is suggested that students read for at least 20 minutes a day. Our reading goal for this year is for each student to read 40 books.
Students will also have nightly assignments for math and language arts, among other subjects. Math and language arts notebooks may be taken home to refer to while doing homework. Students should have a maximum of 40 minutes of homework each night. *If your child is working hard and focusing on homework, but is having a really difficult time, they can stop early. If they have done homework for 40 minutes or more, please tell them they can stop and send me a signed parent note explaining that is what happened.
Homework is graded on students trying their best and attempting all problems. (Homework is not graded on getting them all correct.) If students are having difficulty, they should:
refer to their notes
ask for help (parent/sibling/friend)
send an email to Ms. Goo describing the problem, what they tried, and where they were running into problems
come in before school to ask questions (I'll be available starting at 7:15)
ask for help during morning check in
If students are absent, they are expected to get their homework from the homework bin and turn it in the next day.
If students do not complete (or lose) homework, they are still expected to finish it and turn it in ASAP. Additional copies of homework may be found in the class homework bin. Students will write down any missing/incomplete homework in their Kuleana Folder (which goes home to be signed each Friday.)
